IN 1966, WHEN Muzaffar Ahmad was released temporarily from prison to attend the funeral of friend and colleague Abdul Halim. The Meerut arrests did little to stop the commitment of people like Muzaffar Ahmad and Abdul Halim, one within jail and the other outside.
Comrade Muzaffar Ahmad (1889-1973) was a revolutionary and pioneer of the communist movement in India. Affectionately called 'Kakababu' (uncle) by party comrades and sympathisers, he was a true communist in every sense of the term. His way of life and functioning was a role model for other communist followers. Kakababu was an extremely thoughtful person. He had deep knowledge in various subjects, particularly he had an intense attraction towards classical literature. He used to study for about 7 to 8 hours every day. He had huge collection of books. Even he used to get books from abroad. The lions share of his collection of books and old documents are preserved in Muzaffar Ahmad Pathagar(library) at GANASHAKTI BHAVAN, 74A, A. J. C. Bose Road, Kolkata-700016.
